Where are They Now? An Update on Past Student Award Recipients

Gustavo A. Munoz-Rivadeneira is a recipient of a 2000 IPMI Student Award. He received a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Utah (2006). He presented his research work at the 26th Conference. In 2003, he joined the Department of Extractive Metallurgy at the Escuela Politecnica Nacional, in Quito, Ecuador. After finishing three research projects, all related with gold recovery with activated carbons, he was appointed in 2005 as Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, at Cumbaya, Ecuador. He teaches a variety of courses for the department, such as General Chemistry, Fluid Mechanics, and Extractive Metallurgy of Precious Metals, among others. His research interests are the recovery, refining and recycling of precious metals. Currently, with a colleague from the Department, he is starting a small mining operation for the recovery of placer gold. An active member of IPMI, Gustavo is a frequent presenter at the IPMI Annual Conference and is on the Awards and Grants Committee.
