India has approximately 177 Giga-Watts (GW) of installed capacity for the generation of electricity and the Indian government has set a target to add a further 78GW of newly installed generation capacity by 2012 (i.e. an increase of 44%) [4]. With some future projections indicating that the total demand for electricity in India is expected to near a staggering 950GW by 2030 (over five times current capacity), the ability to generate electricity from renewable, clean, energy sources is paramount.
