According to various surveys, the fastest growing business risk category is risks related to supply chains. This development is caused by both the spread of “just in time” production and, especially, globalisation – in cases where physical supply chain activities are outsourced, but many of the risks are not. Many companies concentrate, at least publicly, on the so-called sustainability of their supply chains – very much driven by pressure for either ethical considerations, or “green” initiatives, to be adopted, or by failures in these areas receiving widespread negative media attention. The risks are mostly related to company reputations and brands.
