In June 2010, Weatherford Asia Pacific started flowing an extended well test in the Tindalo field in the North-West Palawan Basin. The well test was planned to run for three months, during which any produced water was to be treated to an oil content of less than 15mg/l for overboard discharge. The primary water treatment was with conventional hydrocyclones and a degassing vessel, with provision for additional treatment by PS85 absorption media if required. The test well produced at much higher water rates than anticipated and, by August, over 250,000 barrels of water had been treated for disposal, with flowrates of up to 11,000bwpd. The primary water treatment was unable to clean the water sufficiently to meet the very strict environmental discharge limits; therefore, the efficiency of the PS85 package at high flowrates was essential to enable the test to continue. The PS85 package for the Tindalo test consisted of two vertical cartridge filter vessels, each vessel contained 100 off PS85 elements, and was designed to operate either in parallel or as duty/standby to allow continuous treatment whilst changing spent cartridges.
