India’s first national policy for the chemicals sector may be published soon, following the release of a “final draft” in January. The government is likely to try and sign-off the document before the general election starts in April. More than two years in the making, the policy is designed to help India’s chemicals sector grow and become more competitive, partly by improving its reputation for poor production and safety standards. Its goals include the rationalisation of statutory regulations and controls and the creation of a “robust framework for promoting safety and security of chemical facilities across the value chain”.
