Europe’s new era in cosmetics regulation

The cosmetics industry is endeavouring to respond to a new EU Regulation that significantly tightens demands aimed at safeguarding consumer health, and which requires far greater transparency around cosmetics products and their ingredients. The Regulation (1223/2009) also affects the chemical industry, with raw materials suppliers expected to provide morethorough details about the properties and processes involved in making ingredients. The law places additional pressure on chemical firms in terms of gathering and supplying data – and may also expose them to the risk that their confidential processes and findings leak out.
