Responsible care: taking many paths to zero

The Responsible Care program is showing a new burst of energy as it enters its second decade in the US. Recent changes in approach and agenda have set the stage for further evolution in the industry's two-pronged effort--minimizing chemical dangers while maximizing public approval. However, the original goal of building trust in the chemical industry has not been met, focusing program leaders on the long path ahead. An ambitious, ultimate goal has been added to the program's manifesto: zero accidents and injuries--and no harm to the environment.
