摘要

Technology is rapidly approaching the limits of electronic trarisrnission of information along electronic. pathways.,To counter this growing problem, the use oflphotoris jristead of electrons in data transmission is currently being%xpiored. Industry, government and academia have all developed ideas and techniques to incorporate optical circuitry into a variety of information forage and processing systems. Although these Ideas have been extensively researched there is one rnajor obstacle for the development of mainstream photonic devices: -currently there are no affordable and energy,efficient materials which can produce the nonlinear optical (NLO) responses,necessary for the development of such devices.
