摘要

Due to the limited solubility of the commercialized high strength, high modulus, and heat resistant poly (p-phenylene terephthalamide) fibers, PPTA(l), a variety of concepts for structure modifications to enhance solubility have been investigated. Following this development, the improvements in solubility were realized via N-substitution reaction to introduce, for example, bulky lateral substituents(2-4), novel aryl substituted paralinked homopolyamides(l) as well as sulfonated groups(5). Sulfonation of PPTA to give the synthetic sulfonated polytp-phenylene-terephthalamide), PPT-S has received considerable interest and hence has attracted our attention to investigate its solubility characteristics.
