In this study, an amphiphilic monomer structure has been targeted where the amphiphilicity can be tuned at the repeating unit level, giving rise to a polymer backbone structure with regularly spaced hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. The size of the amphiphilic polymer is aimed to be separately controlled through the choice of the polymerization procedure. Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), employing well defined homogeneous catalyst systems, has been a promising technique for the targeted application as it provides flexibility over the choice of functional groups on the monomer unit and a high level of control over the molecular weight and end-groups.
