Synthesis of poly(isobutylene-b-tert-butyl vinyl ether) and poly(isobutylene-b-tert-butyldimethylsilyl vinyl ether) diblock copolymers

Since the discovery of living cationic polymerization in the mid-1980s, virtually all cationically polymerizable monomers have been polymerized in living cationic polymerization including isobutylene, vinyl ethers, styrene and its derivatives, and N-vinyl carbazole. Based on these monomers new families of pendant or terminal functional polymers, macromonomers, linear or nonlinear block copolymers, and other polymers with well-defined architectures have been prepared.
