The interest in waterborne emulsions polymerization has increased in recent years since the more stringent environment legislations are coming up in the future. Waterborne polymer has become an important class of materials in the paint and ink industry. Of waterborne emulsions waterborne polyurethane (PU) and acrylic composite polymer resins are important kinds of waterborne polymers and have the wide range of applications such as adhesive and coating materials. The approaches to modify the performance of waterborne emulsions against solvent-borne coatings are to introduce multi-phase architecture distributing the different polymer chemistries within each emulsion particles and hybrid emulsions based on PU dispersion and acrylic composite polymer (U/A) polymers. The polymerization techniques include interpenetrating network forming or seeded emulsion polymerization. Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) are intimate mixtures of crosslinked polymer hold together by permanent entanglement. Due to the environment advantage, latex IPNs (LIPNs) have been developed in the recent. But the reports of this subject are still few and limited.
