There is currently considerable interest in the use of semiconducting and luminescent Jt-conjugated polymers in light-emitting diodes (LEDs).1"12 Recently, we reported l>lue LEDs made with a polymer blend consisting of soluble poly(p-phenylphenylene vinylene) and die hole transporting polymer, poly(9-vinylcarbazole), PVK.13 By dispersing electron transporting molecule, 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-tert-t>utylphenyl)-l,3,4-oxadiazole (PBD), into semiconducting luminescent polymer, we demonstrated improved efficiencies for green light-emitting diodes with air stable electrodes.14 Blue electroluminescence was realized with air stable electrodes using a novel soluble, non-conjugated copolyester, although the quantum efficiency was relatively low.
