摘要

This 173-page edition of Advances in Polymer Sciences,edited by Hans-Henning Kausch of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology,addresses an important set of topics in the continually emerging area of biomaterials.Kausch has provided,as he often does,a very good introduction to the book,distinguishing various categories of biological and biomedical materials,and justifying the four contributions in the volume.These begin with advanced methods for the characterization and modification of biosurfaces,the use of plasma and radiation-induced grafting,which is a natural outcome of the former,as well as the effect of ionizing radiation on first polymers,then cells and tissues.
