摘要

High velocity compaction (HVC) is a mass production technique with the capacity significantly to improve the properties, and hence expand the applications, of both PM structural parts and soft magnetic composites. The process developed by Hoganas can produce high density components (7.4-7.7 g cm{sup}(-3) for prealloyed and diffusion alloyed grades) exceeding 5 kg in weight at high production rates: the initial compaction stage takes <20 ms. An overview is given of the process and its capabilities, and potential applications are discussed.
