In the last issue we identified plants from around the world by their ecological niches, and proposed that these sets of plants generally look good when planted together--since they occur that way in nature! They are also easier to care for, since they have similar cultural requirements (light, drainage, pH, nutrients). Now let's consider the way nature arranges them on the site. Since we are choosing plant communities from similar habitats, attempting to create a sustainable landscape, it makes sense to scrutinize how they occur in nature.
