Although REACH registration has been implemented widely in the last few years, authorisation is a relatively new process under this extensive European law. During the authorisation process, the applicant has to investigate whether the substance subject to authorisation will be used in the future or not. This question of substitution must be answered by conducting an extensive analysis of technical, economic, risk-related and socio-economic aspects.
