Petroleum and petroleum/coal blends as feedstocks in laboratory-scale coker to obtain carbons of potentially high value

This research studies the relationship between the coke quality and the nature of the feedstock.The chosen feedstock is decant oil which has been hydrotreated at different levels,giving rise to six separate decant oils,so-called "decant oil hydrotreated versions".The quality of the coke in the current paper is measured using optical microscopy.This work also explores the blend of decant oil with coal.The feedstock (decant oil alone or a blend of decant oil with coal) is heat treated using a laboratory-scale coker (tubing bomb).
