Catalytic alkylation of benzene with ethanol

The alkylation of aromatic compounds is widely used in the large-scale synthesis of petrochemicals, and a wide variety of fine chemicals and intermediates. In view of the great theoretical and practical interest in alkylation, several review articles, providing valuable information on both mechanistic and synthetic issues have been published [1-6]. Zeolite cracking catalysts have gained widespread commercial acceptance [8-10] and are now the most important catalysts used in the petroleum industry [11]. The technological importance of zeolite catalysts has led to widespread study of these materials and the synthesis of many new zeolites.
