Plants sustain life on earth providing food and molecular oxygen. As they are sessile organisms, they have developed refined signaling systems to perceive and respond to biotic and abiotic stimuli in their ever-changing environment. One of the major challenges for plants is the discrimination between beneficial and harmful microorganisms. Lacking adaptive immune systems, plants have diversified and optimized their innate immune system.
