摘要

Peat is a sedimentary deposit composed primarily of lignin and cellulose derived materials of high land plants.Peat does not have a defined molecular structure and its chemical composition depends on the nature of the plant input and depositional setting.Much is known about the chemistry of carbon and oxygen transformations that occurs during the conversion of peat to coal and the main chemical reaction pathways have been identified by studying materials at different stages of coalification.Laboratory studies that subject peat and lignite to simulated coalification environments also provided significant insights into the details of carbon and oxygen chemistry and accompanying petrographic changes.
