Synthesis of Oxygenates from Syngas by Using ZrO_2 as Support

The best known example to convert syngas to oxygenates is the synthesis of methanol. It is well established that sizable amounts of higher alcohols and other oxygenates can be made in the methanol processes by minor modifications of the catalyst. Also the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis practiced by Sasol produces significant amounts of acids, ketones and alcohols which are sold on the open market.
