摘要

As a consequence of recent legislation there is an improvement in fuel quality in terms of sulfur contents.The sulfur specifications in diesel fuel are approaching zero (1)(Europe;10 ppm,2009,USA: 15 ppm,2006),which implies very deep desulfurization of middle distillates from crude oil,sulfur conversions above 99.5% are in some cases necessary.This puts a strain on the hydrotreating process facilities,and improved,more active catalysts have been developed (2).To achieve these high conversions it is necessary to remove the very least reactive sulfur components,and much focus recently has been on the hydrodesulfurization (HDS)of dibenothiophenes (DBTs),especially those where the sulfur atom is protected from activation by bulky alkyl groups,e.g.4,6 dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT)(3).
