On the Synthesis of SSZ-48, SSZ-43 and their Variations

For decades researches have been exploring the possibility of synthesizing zeolites by design (1). There is a great deal of literature that discusses the role and importance of the structure directing agent (SDA) and the gel chemistry conditions on this process (2,3). Since the structure solution of the 12 member-ring zeolite SS-48 (4) and its crystallographic relationship with a theoretical 14 member-ring material are known, we have been exploring the use of several SDAs proposed by Wagner et al. (5) for directing the synthesis of this theoretical 14 MR zeolite.
