Supported cobalt based catalysts are proven to be an excellent catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) synthesis of long-chain paraffins.The activity of cobalt based catalysts in F-T reaction were proposed to be proportional to the area of exposed metallic Co atoms.A requirement for highly active Co based catalysts is therefore a high dispersion of the cobalt metal.Cobalt interacts strongly with commonly used support materials,such as alumina and silica,yielding cobalt silicates and cobalt hydrosilicates species that are non-active species for CO hydrogenation in the case of silica.In the present work we focus on an inert activated carbon (AC) with high surface is employed as a carrier has an advantage of high cobalt dispersion,noninteraction with cobalt and suitable pore size (3-5 run) distribution.A series of mono-pore SiO_2 (SBA) with different pore sizes (ca.2-22 run) are used as supports to confirm the crucial role of pore structure in restricting the growth of carbon chain to heavy end.
