Sulfur reduction of naphtha with membrane technology

New environmental regulations are leading refiners to consider new technologies for sulfur reduction in gasoline (1). Due to the large quantities of gasoline processed at refineries, meeting lower sulfur levels may require installation of large pieces of capital equipment. In addition, conventional hydrotreatment as a means for sulfur reduction down to levels below 30 ppm typically results in significant losses in octane value.
