Manganese paramagnetic (magnetic hook) activated cracking catalyst studies, as reported here, have shown that manganese can enhance both the selectivity and activity of non-promoted and rare earth promoted catalysts, as well as provide added protection against nickel and vanadium. These characteristics can be of special importance in todays market where heavier and more metal containing feedstocks predominate, and where gasoline is projected to become more valuable than ever.
