The Role of Robotic Surgery in Treatment of Gynecologic Cancers Part II: Specific Treatments

General principles and considerations in robotic surgery as they relate to care of women with gynecologic malignancies were described in part I of this article ("The Role of Robotic Surgery in Treatment of Gynecologic Cancers, Part I: General Principles" in volume 31, number 1). Part I described the technical and practice-related challenges that needed to be overcome to assure patients that robotic surgical treatment of gynecologic malignancies could be provided in a safe and effective manner. Supporting data were provided, although longer-term outcome data were acknowledged to be still needed. Part II of this article is designed to address more completely the gap between what patients and physicians expect from their gynecologic oncologist and what can be provided robotically. To do so, we will summarize existing data as they describe care of patients with each of the major gynecologic malignancies that are commonly treated by robotic surgery.
