SYNCHRONIZING cows so that all can be inseminated on the same day has become practical. After six years of research ending with a trial last year with 650 cows on four research farms, University of Missouri beef specialists have fine-tuned workable systems for producers. Heat synchronization involves stopping, or in some cases jump-starting, the female reproduction cycle and then restarting all at the same time. This allows artificial insemination of the herd on the same morning, or at a time convenient for the producer. It's even practical for the small-herd owner or those with off-farm jobs.
