Soybean board picks direction for 2006

THE 64 farmer-leaders of the United Soybean Board met recently to wrap up 2005 with an annual meeting, and kick off 2006 with the election of new officers and a new slate of priorities. Greg Anderson, a farmer from Newman Grove, Neb., who served as chairman in 2005, pointed to accomplishments like getting four of every 10 soybean farmers to use biodiesel. He also touts USB's foresight in anticipating market needs and pushing the research and production of low-linolenic soybeans. Kellogg Co. recently became one of the first food makers to work with low-linolenic beans, which the company can use to reduce or eliminate trans fats in foods.
