Sentinel plots gear up for rust

THE take-home message from the National Soybean Rust Symposium is this: The sentinel-plot system is a keeper, and the modeling programs are a good start. Both worked in 2005 and both will be tweaked for 2006. What also worked in '05 is the chemical menu that companies quickly ramped into the system. A vast majority of the chemicals were granted Section 18 labels for soybeans so growers could arm themselves against the virulent disease. Growers can look for another half dozen Section 18 treatments this year.
