The University of Minnesota now has a professor of soils whose sole focus is nitrogen management in corn production. He splits his time between two aspects, which might be considered two sides of one coin: How do we manage nitrogen fertilizer to findthe peak of the grain yield and dollar yield per acre? At the same time, how do we reduce the loss of nitrogen from farm fields into the environment where it can impact water?
