Fun at the fair-Here's a look at the state of affairs at the Illinois State Fair, Aug. 13-22.

It's August and the mercury's soaring, which can only mean one thing in Illinois: It's time for the Illinois State Fair, Thanks to the calendar year, this perennial farm family vacation kicks off a little later than normal this year, running Aug. 13-22. As in years past, thousands of Illinois youngsters will bring their livestock and/or 4-H projects to Springfield to compete with one another. This year, anticipated budget cuts and later fair dates will force non-livestock exhibitors to send their projects in for judging prior to the fair's kickoff, replacing previous "county days" and one-on-one conference judging between 4-H'ers and judges.
