In the general case,corrosion can be interpreted as gradual destruction of a material in chemical reactions occurring when the material contacts the environment.The best known type of corrosion is the corrosion of metals and alloys (for example,rusting),which involves the anodic process of heterogeneous oxidation of a metal and the cathodic process of reduction of one or more components of the environment.
