No-till, low-till works with buffers

Gene Barto has farmed for 40 years. He started establishing conservation buffers just five or six years ago. While this practice may be relatively new, Barto has always looked for ways to protect soil and water on high Tiffin, Ohio, farm. Described by a Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) officer as a "devout environmentalist," Barto started no-tilling corn into soybean stubble back in 1984.
