On-farm office space sets tone for business

THE conference room in Scott and Nancy Clark's office centers around an extra-large kitchen table. That wasn't by accident. "We wanted the feel of doing business around the kitchen table," Scott explains. "It's just that this kitchen table isn't in our house." The kitchen table area is multipurpose, acting as a spot to gather, a place for team meetings with employees and a conference room. The new office the Clarks, West Lebanon, Ind., moved into recently was many years in coming. They paid attention to offices and shops as they visited various parts of the country. Then Scott designed the 54-by-44-foot office himself. "Nancy likes to say it was my 43rd design," he quips.
