THE next five to 10 years will be challenging for U.S. farmers and ranchers, according to speakers at the 76th annual meeting of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers held last month in Austin, Texas. Nearly 600 agribusiness professionals listened intently as agricultural economists and others laid out their forecast. To no one's surprise, the 2007 Farm Bill will be one of the major drivers to the path U.S. ag takes over the next decade. Other factors include the mushrooming U.S. deficit and the Doha Round of the World Trade Organization discussions, which begin in December.
