Hoop structure provides worth, welfare

MORE than a decade of research at Iowa State University has proven that hoop barns can meet sustainable agriculture's triple bottom line. They're economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound. An estimated 3,000 or more hooped buildings are now used on Iowa farms for livestock housing — mostly for hogs. Producers also use them for beef and dairy cattle, horses and sheep, as well as for storing hay, grain and machinery.
