A 400,000 tonne/yr newsprint PM at Shandong Huatai Paper’s flagship mill in Dongying city, Shandong province has recently met China’s clean production standards after a half-year suspension over a pollution issue (No. 27, 2013, p.1). Earlier this week, Shandong Huatai received a notice from China’s Ministry of Environment (MOE) indicating that the firm’s rectification measures have met its requirements. A Shandong Huatai spokesperson said that a restart is now being considered, but he declined to give a specific timeline or any other details. The unit, dubbed PM 11, was supplied by Voith Paper and fired up in 2005. It has a width of 10.2 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min.
