Ballarpur Industries (BILT) of India is reportedly facing the closure of one of its principal Indian mills, the Ballarpur facility in Ballarshah, Maharashtra. Sources report that the mill is being cut off from an affordable supply of furnish after local authorities refused to acknowledge the firm’s tender for regionally grown bamboo. Facing either the cessation of operations or sourcing bamboo from more distant producers at a much higher cost, local sources are concerned that the mill will opt for the former.
