Magnet keeps carbon black iron free

Waalre, the Netherlands - Goudsmit Magnetic Systems BV has recently developed a special and extraordinary magnet system for removing iron particles from carbon black. Carbon black is used as a reinforcing filler in rubber products (car tyres, gaskets) and as a pigment in cosmetic products (mascara). Carbon black is difficult to work with. Carbon black containing iron particles is disastrous for rubber compounds; rubber end-products containing ferrous metals are weak and therefore have to be consigned to the reject bin. In addition, iron particles can scratch and damage calenders and blades used to process carbon black. If the end-product is designed to be used in cable insulation, the presence of iron particles can affect the ultimate disruptive voltage.
