There is undoubtedly something special in the water within a 30-mile radius of Oswestry, Shropshire, because this stunningly beautiful area boasts many of the most successful waterfowl exhibitors and breeders in Britain. In the past month, most of themajor winners of three huge waterfowl shows - Oswestry, Balsall Common and Solihull - came from this area. Why there should be so many waterfowl devotees in this small area, which straddles the border between England and Wales, is a mystery; but there are historical records showing that waterfowl have always been popular in this region. An important factor must be the area's numerous fast flowing streams and placid lakes.
