Characterisation of particulate materials or bulk solids is far more than simply determining their size distributions. Unfortunately, while a disproportionate effort is directed at the altter, many characteristics needed for the optimum selection, design and/or operation of many processes and equipment suffer from inadequate investigation or downright neglect. This paper highlights the unsatisfactory state with regard to the situation.
