Particle technology has wide applications in powder processing industries such as cement, fertilizer and metal oxide processing industries. The present paper gives a brief description of some of the investigations carried out at the Particle Science and Technology Laboratory of IIT-Delhi together with industries to improve the process performance and reduce energy consumption. Comminution studies were made on an industrial ball mill and wertical roller mill. The performance of the industrial ball mill was studied to investigate the possibility of increasing the capacity of the mill. In fine grinding, ball mill performance is compared with a laboratory Attritor mill for fine particle production. The gas solid separators such as cyclone and bag fiters were studied to improve the plant performance. Cyclone applications as heat transfer equipment were studied. The need for the estimation of flow properties has been demonstrated for coal and raw mix storage silo in cement plant.
