The transport disengaging height (TDH) was determined experimentally from measurements of the evolution of pressure gradients with height above the fluidized bed.Existing literature correlations are widely different in their predictions and fail to predict the results accurately. The TDH can be predicted from calculating the trajectories of ejected particles in the freeboard and both coarse and fine particles need to be considered separately. To illustrate the use of the model,TDH predictions are made for various superficial gas velocities and/or diameters of the fluidized bed.
