Sweden sets the pace on environment and welfare

BIRD welfare and environmental issues have come to the fore in the 22 years since Sweden first hosted the annual production and marketing conference of the International Egg Commission. Last month in Stockholm IEC chairman Alex Craig stirred some memories among the 230 delegates and spouses from 20 countries, but they knew that more had changed than Sweden joining the European Union. Always among the loaders on these issues Sweden has also got to be able to compete in the Single Market. Delegates were eager to learn how those forces could bo reconciled.
