The long-term future of the free-range sector in light of the avian flu threat was one issue raised at this year's NFU/BEIC National Egg conference. BRITAIN SHOULD be able to contain avian flu if it arrives in this country, claimed the head of DEFRA's livestock division last month. "Our contingency arrangements are pretty good if we get the disease here," was the reassuring message to the National Egg Conference at Sutton Coldfield from opening speaker Andrew Slade.
