New petrochem policy draft favours cess to finance upgradation fund

THE revised petrochem policy draft proposes a cess on all polymers produced in the country as well as on imports,to raise resources for a Petrochemical Technology Upgradation Fund.Although the draft policy does not mention the quantum of the cess,government officials indicated that it could be specific,rather than ad valorem,at about Rs 100/tonne.
