Trends in plastics materials used for medical disposable applications

Disposable medical products such as syringes,tubing,bags,gloves and sheets are produced commercially from standard plastics such as polypropylene(PP),polyethylene(PE),polystyrene(PS)and polyvinyl chloride(PVC),which account for nearly 80% of the polymer consumption in this industry segment.Despite the a vailability of numerous grades derived from dozens of plastic resins,medical processors continue to develop new,application-specific compounds.There has been a marked growth in the use of higher performance technical and engineering plastics where,in addition to the application requirements like biological reactivity and toxicity,the raw material quality,source of ingredients as well as manufacturing conditions for compounds/ end products are becoming critical.
