Qatar looks to more than double petrochemical production by 2020

QATAR will invest $25-bn to expand and develop its domestic petrochemical industry over the next decade, according to Mr. Mohammed Al-Sada, Qatar's Energy Minister. He said the expansion is expected to improve the country's petrochemical production capacity to 23-mt by 2020 from the current 9.2-mt.Qatar signed and agreed a deal with Royal Dutch Shell in December to develop a $6.4-bn petrochemicals complex in the Ras Laffan industrial city. The plant will have the capac-ity to produce 1.5-mtpa of monoethylene glycol and 300,000-tpa of linear alpha-olefins annually.
